About Doncaster

Doncaster with its famous racecourse, is at the centre of the Doncaster Metropolitan Borough – the largest borough outside London, with a population of around 300, 000. Much of the heavy industry the town has been associated with, such as mining and railway engineering has declined, but the area, with its excellent road and rail links, is being rebuilt with a number of new industrial parks and a planned new International Airport.

The Doncaster Advertiser was launched in 1974 and acquired by Johnston Press in 1983. It has been part of South Yorkshire Newspapers Ltd since 1995. It has recently been renamed the Doncaster & Dearne Advertiser.
