About Epworth

The Epworth Bells has served the Isle of Axholme for almost 131 years, first published on Saturday May 10th 1873.

It is believed Epworth Bells got its name because the church bells used to sounds warnings or to mark celebration.

The Bells expanded and in 1877 the quote form Alfred Lord Tennyson appeared with its masthead -
"Ring out the old, ring in the new. Ring out the false, ring in the true".

Steeped in history Epworth is a small affluent town between Scunthorpe and Doncaster with good motorway links. It is the birthplace of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, a fact that attracts thousands of tourists each year.
