About Mexborough

The paid-for South Yorkshire Times, which began in 1877, and the free Dearne Advertiser are two of the publications produced at South Yorkshire Newspapers Ltd’s Mexborough office.

The third is the South Yorkshire Property Guide (distributed with the South Yorkshire Times).

All three cover what was once an area once renowned for its heavy industry with mining the main occupation, although glass, steel and pottery were also major sources of employment.

The circulation area includes not only the many villages and small townships of the Dearne Valley but further north to the fringes of Wakefield, west to parts of Barnsley, east to districts in Doncaster and south to some parts of Rotherham.

Sport and entertainments sections, however, may be sourced from an even wider area.

With the disappearance of the traditional industries, the region is now mainly residential, although some newer job opportunities have sprung up in recent years at call centres and service providers in areas such as Manvers in the centre of the region.
